Key Takeaways from the SAP ALM Summit EMEA 2024

Reflections from the SAP ALM Summit EMEA 2024: Innovations and Insights for the Future of SAP Cloud ALM

Last week, the Rapid X team had the privilege of attending the SAP ALM Summit EMEA 2024 in Mannheim, Germany, a flagship event for exploring SAP’s latest innovations in Application Lifecycle Management (ALM). The summit was packed with insightful demos, product roadmap updates, and a wealth of future-facing discussions that left us energised about what’s to come in the SAP ecosystem.

Key Highlights from the Summit

  1. SAP’s Business Transformation Centre
One of the most exciting tools we saw in action was SAP’s Business Transformation Centre, powered by SAP Cloud ALM. Designed to support Lean Selective Data Transitions (SDT) for customers migrating to S/4HANA, this tool streamlines the selective data migration process by enabling analysis, scoping, orchestration of the data migration cycles and automated post-load validation. Although still maturing for more complex migration needs, the current functionality and upcoming enhancements (Q4 2024, and throughout 2025) are promising, particularly with new features like time-slice data migration.
  2. GenAI-Powered Innovations
GenAI stole the show in several sessions, with SAP unveiling its AI assistant, Joule, designed to help consultants and business users alike. From automated requirements capture to intelligent alert monitoring, GenAI integration into SAP Cloud ALM promises to streamline processes and reduce manual effort.
  3. Clean Core Governance and Compliance
Clean Core principles remain central to SAP’s strategy, especially as businesses prepare for future SAP S/4HANA upgrades. SAP’s upcoming Clean Core Dashboard, set to launch in 2025, will enable organisations to monitor and ensure compliance. This dashboard will become an essential tool for businesses aiming to maintain a clean core and avoid technical debt during their transformation journeys.
  4. Customer Evolution Kit
SAP’s Customer Evolution Kit is a valuable resource for businesses contemplating their transition to S/4HANA. By leveraging inputs from SAP LeanIX, SAP Signavio, and readiness checks in Cloud ALM, the kit offers a holistic view of the "why," "what," and "how" of moving to the cloud. This toolkit is particularly useful for companies still unsure about the benefits of transformation, making it an invaluable asset for planning and discussion.
